Church of the Redeemer

Established AD 1888, Church of the Redeemer is in the National Register of Historic Places. An Anglo-Catholic congregation in Woodfin, within the Diocese of Western North Carolina, our purpose is to worship God in the beauty of holiness, to teach the faith in such a way that we may be empowered to serve our Lord in this world, and bring others into the fellowship of the Body of Christ. We are dedicated to maintaining the Anglican traditions that have formed our worship over the ages.

We welcome all baptized Christians to receive Holy Communion at the altar of God. If you are visiting for the first time, we welcome you to the Episcopal Church. Please make yourself known to Father Hanks.

We are what we are
because of what we have been.

The Rector's Corner

We will not continue to have the ABCCM basket at the church as Nathan Ownbey no longer works in that department at ABCCM. We still encourage you to assist ABCCM by making cash contributions. We just no longer will be able to take donations of food as in the past.

The flowers on the altar today are given by Steve & Renee Henderson to the Glory of God and in thanksgiving for the marriage of Candice & Landon. If you want to give the flowers on the altar for any Sunday, please sign the list in the Parish Hall.

Do you sew, knit, paint, and make jewelry or anything crafty? If so, we need your help! Our fall craft show and bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 1st. These bazaars are a lot of fun and can be a good fund raiser. If you have any questions, please see Linda, Aileen or Tabitha.

There will be a Autumn Family Supper Wednesday, October 29th, in lieu of our annual Halloween Party (Feel free to dress up in costume, anyway). The reason is the Fall Craft Bazaar is the day following Halloween, and we don't want to have to set up the Parish Hall after a party!

Anyone having any announcements, please get them to Butch (email: butchlOI5@charter.net) by Wednesday of each week.

Services/Events this week:
Sunday - 8:15 AM - Holy Eucharist

Two of the most important figures in the development of the translation of the Holy Scriptures are remembered at this time by the church, St. Jerome and William Tyndale. St. Jerome was the 5th century scholar/monastic who translated the scriptures from Greek and Hebrew into Latin, which was the language of western Christianity. Roughly one thousand years later, William Tyndale translated the Greek, Hebrew and Latin scriptures into English, the first full translation of the scriptures into the language of the English people. Without the work of these two scholars we would not have the Holy Scriptures in the two most important languages of western civilization, Latin in the Middle Ages and English in the modem age. Thanks be to God for their gift to the Christian Church.
